Makeup Setting sprays are essentially a crucial part of our makeup routine. If you want your face makeup to last longer you would certainly need this baby in your life. You must have realised that most of the makeup setting sprays available in the market are quiet expensive. While when you actually look for the ingredients list you would feel silly for paying too much for something so affordable. You guys already know my love for natural products and that’s one reason that drove me into making this amazing DIY makeup setting spray.

What is a Makeup setting spray?

Setting spray is spritzed on your face once you are done with applying your makeup. It helps in setting the powder makeup that usually sits on the surface of the skin. It moisturizes the powder beads so it blends into the skin allowing the makeup to last longer.

To create your version of makeup setting spray you need a few important essentials listed below.

Sanitized empty spray bottles which you can easily find at a beauty supply store or Amazon (One spray bottle is sufficient for a month and advisable to replace it every month for sanitization)

A tablespoon

A funnel (optional) (to pour the setting spray from the bowl in the spray bottle efficiently)

Makeup setting spray using Vegetable Gycerin (please test the effects of glycerin on your skin before using this makeup setting spray)

Makeup setting spray using glycerin

If you take a look at the ingredients of most branded makeup setting sprays the most common ingredient that you will notice is Glycerin. It is known as an excellent natural hydrating ingredient that is used to seal the makeup that can last longer. It also holds the skin moisture. Pour 3 tbsp distilled or filtered water along with 1 tbsp vegetable gylcerin in a bowl and add a few drops of essential oil or 1 tbsp witch hazel to it. Mix it well so that the ingredients blend properly using a spoon. Now transfer this to the spray bottle and shake well before each use. Spritz it over the makeup on your face 3 to 4 times for a flawless long lasting look.

Makeup setting spray using Aloevera gel

Aloe vera is an amazing natural ingredient for oily skin. It keeps you oil free for about 4 hours. You can add a few drops of any essential oil to keep your skin hydrated (Lavender oil is great for calming the skin from redness and acne). Add 1 tbsp of bio oil to 3 tbsp of distilled/filtered water in a bowl and add 2-3 drops of lavender oil (any essential oil) to it. Now pour this into spray bottle and shake it well until all the ingredients are blended. You can spritz it on your face as many times as you wish to feel fresh and cool. I typically use this during summers and it works wonders.

Makeup setting spray using Green Tea

You can use this DIY Green Tea makeup setting spray to give your skin a rejuvenating antioxidant treatment. Boil some water in a medium sized pot. Brew the tea for about 15-20 minutes and remove the tea bag. Now let it rest until it cools down and then add 3 to 4 drops of vitamin E oil or ¼ content of vitamin E capsule. Blend this mixture very well and transfer it in a spray bottle.

Makeup setting spray using Rose Water

I mentioned in my earlier post about rose water as a skin toner but it can also be used as an excellent makeup setting spray. You can either use homemade rose water using fresh rose petals and distilled/filtered hot water. You can also use Kama Ayurveda pure rose water or any pure rose water bought from a store. Add 1 tbsp glycerin to half a cup of rose water and mix it well. Pour this into a spray bottle. Shake it well before every use and spritz it over your face and allow it to try on its own.

Some important points to remember

Don’t hold the spray bottle too close while spritzing the makeup setting spray. Its best to tilt your head a little up and hold the spray bottle about quiet a few inches away from the face while spraying.

Glycerin is known to be hypo-allergenic. If you wish to test whether you are allergic to it or have sensitive skin then apply a very small amount of glycerin on your inner elbow. Wait for a day to see the results. If you feel any irritation please rinse of your hands with soap and water. Do not use glycerin in your makeup setting spray instead opt for the aloevera makeup setting spray.

Since these makeup setting sprays are homemade and preservative-free. Add a few drops of vitamin E oil to increase the shelf life effectively.

Add a few drops of essential oil to the makeup setting spray for natural fragrance.

If your skin feels a little dry add a few drops of argan oil to the makeup fixing spray.

Use any of the above DIY Makeup setting spray and change your makeup game. 😉
